Despite a late start from phx waiting for Brett's new debt card to come in we managed to make it about 8 miles in yesterday. Our first hike was a night hike and we left the southern terminus as the sun was setting. The first night already has had its fair share of adventure. Brett's trekking pole broke. No surprise. And the paranoia of stepping on a rattler at night had each of us jumping at every field mouse hopping in the high grass. There is a lot of wildlife out here! Owls, mice, black widows, and strange bugs.

We set up camp around midnight both yearning for our sleeping bags and a fresh start in the morning. While the cool breeze and cold night air brought us easy miles I anticipate Mr. Sun won't be as helpful. Perhaps we will become as active as the critters here at night and shade seekers during the day.
